Proutist Universal Malta coordinated Erasmus+ Mobility of youth workers “Youth Bridges: Hands Reaching for the Future through Diversity and Inclusion” through youth work with the participants from non-governmental organisations from the countries of Malta, Romania, Hungary, Turkey and France in Malta from 8 to 12 May, 2024.

The main objectives of the projects were:

  • Understanding and preventing the dangers of climate change.
  • To organize training courses for youth workers.
  • To disseminate training methods in the fields of sustainability and coaching.
  • To increase the environmental awareness of youth workers.
  • Implement accessible and clean energy projects.
  • Produce and implement projects to improve quality of life.
  • Promote sustainable transportation options.
  • Reduce emissions by conducting ecological footprint assessments.
  • Networking with organizations and individuals interested in cooperation in the field of environmentally friendly activities.
  • To have a basic understanding of climate change in the EU.
  • To train and empower youth workers to take an active role in nature protection.

  1. The project aims to reduce the effects of global warming on the climate and environment and apply them in new ways for a more sustainable world. The world is facing major problems due to warm weather effects, sea level rise and air pollution. It is important to take an active role in solving these problems.
  2. The project aims to develop the competencies and knowledge of youth workers and young leaders to combat the effects of global warming and work for a more sustainable world. In this way, it is aimed to create and strengthen sustainable environmental awareness both at individual level and society at large.
  3. The project also aims to provide training and support for youth workers and young leaders to take an active role in nature conservation at local level. In this way, we aim to create a sustainable environmental awareness for both current and future generations.

Participants and Activities

There were 35 Youth Workers (25 participants and 10 trainers/facilitators, 18 and above) from 6 countries of 7 partner organisations who wanted to increase their knowledge and skills on environment and climate change issues and to address these issues more effectively in their work with young people and they also want to cooperate at international level, sharing experiences and knowledge with other organizations and youth workers working in similar fields which will help them to discover new ideas and practices that they can apply in their own work.

Day 1

On the first day, there was opening and welcome reception followed by program represenation. Then participants of different organisations give presentation about their organisation and their works so far. Then there was introduction to Erasmus+ Youth opportunities and also explanation of Youthpass. At last, there was Salto followed by dinner in city center.

Day 2

On the second day, icebreaker and cowboy games were played which resulted in interactive learning. Then there were presentations and group discussions about effects of global warming on climate and environment and also on sustainable environmental practices. At last, there was cultural night (Malta) in which Participating group presented their countries and cultures.

Day 3

On the third day, icebreaker games and tell you neighbour games were organised which resulted in interactive learning. Then, there were presentations and group discussions on climate change and ecological footprint, which made them aware about climate and environment. At last, there was cultural night (Turkey and France) in which Participating group presented their countries and cultures.

Day 4

On the fourth day, there were icebreaker games, story building and painting a picture which resulted in interactive learning. Then, there were presentations and group discussions on ecological balance and on accessible and clean energy. At last, there was cultural night (Hungary and Romania) in which Participating group presented their countries and cultures.

Day 5

On the fifth day, youth workers visited Malta climate activists who gave them necessary information about climate and from them, youth workers learned various application methods. Then, there was Malta cultural tour in which participants visited historical sites of Malta. At last, there was Farewell barbeque and handing out Youthpass certificates to the participants.

Impact of project Youth Bridges

  • Capacity Building: The project helped youth workers to increase their knowledge and skills on environment and climate change issues. In this way, they were able to address these issues more effectively in their work with young people.
  • International Cooperation: The project enabled the participating youth workers and organizations to cooperate at international level, sharing experiences and knowledge with other organizations and youth workers working in similar fields. This helped each participant to discover new ideas and practices that they applied in their own work.
  • Contribution to Local Communities: The knowledge and skills gained as a result of the project was shared by youth workers with local communities and contributed to their adoption of sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
  • Impact on Youth Policies: The results and achievements of the project can have an impact on the formulation and implementation of youth policies. In this way, it can contribute to youth workers and organizations giving more importance to environmental and climate change issues and making policies more effective in these areas.
  • Sustainable Results: The knowledge and experiences gained during the project enabled youth workers and organizations to produce and implement sustainable and effective projects in the youth field. This will continue to create long-term and positive impacts in the lives of both participants and young people.
